Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 criminal counts at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

A man who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has admitted sexual crimes against two children both nine and ten years old.

Jon Ruben was detained after eight minors and a grown-up fell ill at the facility in July.

The elderly man, from that region, pleaded guilty to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was facing, which was involving a nine-year-old boy.

Ruben was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on November 28th.

'Candy game'

The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined Ruben's offending to the judicial body.

She explained his targets were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he operated.

The defendant engaged in a "sweet game" with the children, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and ask them to eat sweets "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings the defendant had engaged in this activity with the boys "repeatedly", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.

She explained the man had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

The prosecutor stated further: "Recently" his stepchild had concerns about the activities, for good reason.

"They decided to investigate in the individual's items."

Mrs Prior KC explained materials including lubricant, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member contacted the police about his concerns.

She explained Ruben went on to play the "sweet game" with six boys that time - July 26th - and they were all ill the subsequent day.

"Authorities" had not arrived by that point," she added.

The regulatory agency, the investigative body, previously told that it was investigating the police response of the incident.

The prosecutor said the children were unable to walk properly due to being ill, so the family member contacted the authorities again.

She stated the defendant then played the "treat game" in a space of five youngsters.
