Ever since the premiere of the fourth campaign, fresh DM the talented storyteller has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a diverse cast of characters, and a thrilling plot including angels, fiends, and sinister influences expanding in strength within the urban setting.
Warning: Spoilers for Episode 3 of the new season follow below.
The Soldiers Table Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and revealed the initial group of adventurers who will separate from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.
The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by Travis Willingham), Thimble (Laura), the strong-willed figure (Whitney), Wicander Halovar (Sam), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie Daymond).
Dividing the Cast
Given 13 cast members, it was evident from the beginning that keeping everyone at one table would be impossible.
This explains, the initial installments of this story serve as an Introduction, weaving together the characters’ stories before dividing into three separate parties: Warriors, Schemers, and Questers.
The Nature of the Combat Party
Per Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where peaceful solutions are scarce.
Initially, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander Halovar might seem out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the combat party.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.
A former ally of Thjazi—whose passing kicked off the story’s plot—manipulated the foes for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting the character, and swiping all the magical artifacts to auction.
The antagonist then cleared his obligations and escaped to a secure base in the remote area, beyond the urban center, with Teor’s brother close behind.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a personal reason to exit Dol-Makjar:
- The agile hero, as Thjazi’s partner and closest confidant, seeks revenge.
- Kattigan has experience in the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
- The warrior and Wicander, having resisted his family’s wishes to eliminate Teor and instead saved him, have no other options.
- But, their position as key figures in the influential clan could enable the party enter locations they normally couldn’t.
- Additionally, The grateful character swore a unbreakable promise to Wicander for his rescue and will now go with him everywhere.
Fugitives
Lastly, all of them are sought by the powers that rule the city for a range of causes, making remaining behind dangerous:
- The rogue and The hero are notorious outlaws.
- Tyranny and The healer defied the powerful family and the horde of evil beings they are aligned with.
- The target is marked for death by the family.
This leaves them no alternative but to travel to Timmony in pursuit of the traitor.
Upcoming Developments
According to the recent installment’s post-show segment, we find out that the Soldiers table will be absent the following episode, leaving the other eight players to round up the Explorers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can expect discovering which players will be assigned to which table in the story’s final introductory chapter, released on October 24.
